Fitness/Walk Grade

This trip includes consecutive days of hiking, with distances of up to 10km per day. While the distances are not long, the terrain is hilly and many of the walks take place at around 3,000m elevation. At this altitude, you will notice a reduced level of stamina and increased effort during physical activity. The pace will be slow and designed for enjoyment, with plenty of time to rest and take in the surroundings. However, you must be comfortable hiking both uphill and downhill on uneven terrain.

This itinerary is achievable for most people with a reasonable level of fitness, but we strongly recommend training in advance to ensure you can complete the hikes comfortably and safely.

While on tour, we have you sharing with different women from the group at different times - great for group bonding and also for alleviating any potential annoyances that may occur as a result of travelling with the same person throughout a tour. Or, if you’d prefer your own room on the trip, this is possible  for an additional supplement.  You can select this option at the time of booking.

Arrival & Departure Details

Independent travel is not permitted in Bhutan, so entry and exit from the country must align with our group itinerary.
There are also limited daily flights to and from Bhutan, with Paro being the country’s only international airport.

We will arrange airport transfers in Paro for the following flights:

  • 4 May :  arrival from Bangkok or Kathmandu

  • 13 May : departure to Bangkok or Kathmandu

Who will be leading the trip?

All AW trips are accompanied by one of our experienced Tour Leaders. Their role is to take the hassle out of your travels and help you get the most out of your experience, while embracing the Adventurous Women way.

You’ll also be supported by a Bhutanese guide who provide invaluable insight into culture, history and more.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

We do our best to accommodate dietary requirements and food allergies on every tour.  It’s important that any requirements are communicated accurately at the time of booking.

Accommodation

We will be spending 8 nights in 3-star deluxe hotels, with ensuite bathrooms.

One night (Day 8) will be 'comfort camping', with stand-up tents equipped with proper beds, pillows and carpeted floors.

The tour price is based on twin-share (two people per room).  A single room is available for a surcharge - please check the single supplement option.

How will we be travelling?

We’ll be travelling by private van, bus and jeep on the trip. The durations provided are intended as estimates only.

Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is mandatory for AW's international trips. We recommend taking out a policy early. Most good travel insurance policies offer an upgrade option to cover trip cancellation and interruption, which can come in handy.

If you are looking for a recommendation, we suggest Go Insurance. Through an affiliation with this insurer, AW receives a financial benefit. As a way of passing value back to our guests, if you purchase a policy for an AW trip through Go Insurance using this link, you may be eligible for our rebate offer.

Do I need a visa?

A visa is required for Bhutan.  The visa price and processing is included in the trip price. While no additional fees are required for this process, it is necessary for you to provide the required information and it is your responsibility to print the visa document to present upon arrival.

What is the ‘Sustainable Tourism Fee’ listed in the inclusions?

Bhutan charges international visitors a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD $100 per person, per night. The fee is part of Bhutan’s “high value, low impact” tourism policy and helps fund environmental conservation, cultural preservation, healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects across the country.

What do I carry while hiking?

Most of the hikes on this trip are day hikes. You’ll need to carry water, sun protection and any valuables. When we have the overnight hiking experience (days 8-9) you’ll also need to fit in an extra layer for cooler temperatures, toiletries and a clean shirt/undies if you wish. Therefore, a day pack of 20-30 litres should be sufficient for the trip.
