Whitsunday Wanderings - Sail, Hike, Explore
Explore the Great Barrier Reef on board a 122-year-old tall ship! Over seven days, enjoy a wonderful mix of sailing, ...
Adventures where the water plays a leading role. Sail, paddle and explore, with the freedom and tranquillity of travelling by water, and plenty to discover above and below the surface along the way.
Water-based adventures are our trips that live predominantly on and around the water. On some you'll travel by boat, like sailing the Whitsundays aboard a classic tall ship. On others you're in the driver's seat, paddling a sea kayak between secluded beaches and island camps. Either way, the water is what shapes your days.
There's usually plenty to do off the water too - a hike to a lookout, a snorkel over the reef, a wander along the shore - so you get the best of both worlds! These tours share some traits with our Pack-Free Hikes and Active Adventures, but it's the water element - the sailing, the paddling, the swimming and the salt air - that sets these trips apart.

Whether you're under sail or paddling your own kayak, these trips are all about life on the water. Wake up to ocean views, travel between places by boat rather than bus, and drift off to the gentle sound of the sea. It's a different kind of freedom.
It's not all sailing and paddling. Most water-based adventures mix in other activities too, like hikes to lookouts, snorkelling over reefs, beach time and the chance to explore on foot. You get that lovely combination of being active on the water and stretching your legs off it.
Some of these trips are more relaxed and ship-based, with the sailing in-between done for you. Others, like a sea kayaking expedition, are more hands-on and active. There's a good range depending on how much effort you're after, so it's worth a look at each trip's details to find the right match - it's likely there's a good fit for you.
